Dr. Oussama Nachar, MD

Dr. Nachar earned his medical degree from the Universite Laval in Quebec, Canada, and his PhD in radiobiology at the Universite of Sherbrooke where he also completed his Nuclear Medicine Residency, and PET fellowship. Dr. Nachar has been on staff at Ochsner since the spring of 2001. Dr. Oussama Nachar is a in nuclear medicine specialist with an expertise in PET-CT, certified in Quebec by the ‘College des Medecins du Quebec’, in Canada by the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and in the United States by the American board of Nuclear Medicine (ABNM). Dr Nachar possesses a license to practice medicine in the Quebec province, as well as several states such as Texas, Virginia, Vermont, and Louisiana. He has accumulated an extended experience in PET in oncology, Neurology and Cardiology with several thousands cases interpreted in PET and PET-CT. After his fellowship studies, Dr Nachar has occupies a staff position at the university of Texas UT-southwestern, in Dallas, Texas. Subsequently, …he was appointed as a Nuclear Medicine professor at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. He is currently the section head of the department of Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT at the Ochsner Health System, New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr Nachar is an inquiring clinician with several fundamental and clinical research. A large part of his research work was on breast cancer for a better detection and characterization of the disease. He is one of the pioneers in the field of estrogenic receptor imaging in the breast cancer. Dr. Nachar is an author and co-author of several articles in PET and PET-CT and he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Society of Nuclear Medicine.
