I first came to San Diego in 1983 when the Navy sent me to Balboa Naval Hospital to do my internship after graduating from Duke University School of Medicine. I thought I’d spend a few years in paradise before gravitating back to the East Coast, but I never left! After serving a full 20-year career in the Navy, I joined the Kaiser Permanente medical group in 2003.
