Dr. Ramin Javan, MD

Ramin Javan, MD is board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Neuroradiology. He is an assistant professor at The George Washington School of Medicine & Health Sciences. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University and subsequently attended University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed Diagnostic Radiology and Neuroradiology Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, also serving as chief neuroradiology fellow. He returns to the Washington, DC area after more than a decade of absence. Dr. Javan’s primary commitment is providing excellent clinical care through interpretation of advanced imaging techniques in neuroradiology, i.e. CT and MRI of the brain, spine and head/neck as well as teaching of radiology residents and neuroradiology fellows. Special clinical areas of interest include tumor imaging / characterization and use of fMRI for pre-surgical planning. Main area of research includes applications of 3D …printing technologies in radiology, specifically prototyping custom pre-surgical planning templates, detailed anatomic teaching models and designing phantoms for simulating image-guided interventions. Other research areas of interest include radiology informatics, 3D virtual teaching simulations and development of decision support tools. Dr. Javan received the Roentgen Resident Research Award in 2011 and 2013 from the Radiologic Society of North America. Throughout his training years, he authored or co-authored more than fifty abstracts, exhibits and oral presentations as well as a dozen journal publications.
