As a pediatrician, I look at my role as an educator of both parents and children, including pre-teens, teens and college-age individuals. I’m a firm believer in preventive medicine and routine exams, as the outcomes are much better when medical issues are identified and addressed earlier rather than later. I believe that in order to have a good, trusting relationship between parents and their child’s pediatrician, there needs to be honest discussions and shared medical decision-making.
