Dr. Richard Wholey, MD

Wholey is an Interventional and Clinical Cardiologist at the Saint Vincent HospitalWorcester Medical Center location of Saint Vincent Medical Group. Dr. Wholey works closely with patients to address and treat cardiovascular issues such as heart failure, arrhythmia, ischemic coronary artery disease, lipid management, risk-management modification and device management on an out-patient basis.
Through collaboration with patients, Dr. Wholey delivers exceptional treatment and follow-up care tailored to each patient’s lifestyle and unique healthcare needs. “As an interventional cardiologist, it is my goal to treat patients before the need for cardiovascular surgery arises. However, if patients are at the stage …when surgical steps are in their best interests, I aim for minimally invasive interventional procedures whenever possible.”
A respected member of the Worcester medical community for 28 years, Dr. Wholey is known across New England as one of the most experienced interventional cardiologists, having performed over 25,000 invasive cardiac procedures during his career. He was voted by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America from 2009 to 2012. Dr. Wholey is board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology and credentialed as a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Formerly employed as Staff Physician for UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts, Dr. Wholey served as a Senior Partner and Founding Member of Cardiology Consultants of Central Massachusetts, also in Worcester, Massachusetts. He completed fellowships in Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Cardiology and an Internal Medicine residency and internship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. Dr. Wholey received his medical degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Ohio.
