Stephen J. Dewan, M.D., is originally from Houston, Texas. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston where he also completed a fellowship in infectious disease. He completed his internship and residencies in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he served two years as chief resident. Dr. Dewan went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He has practiced with Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons since 1988. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Cardiology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Dewan specializes in adult and pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery including heart transplantation, homograft valve replacement, mitral valve repair, Ross Procedure, and cardiac arrhythmia surgery. Dr. Dewan currently serves as …Medical Director for Pediatric Heart Surgery Services at Children’s Hospital of Austin. He was nominated Cardiac Care Provider of the Year in 1999 by the American Heart Association. He is an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, International Society for Adult Congenital Cardiac Disease, Texas Transplant Society, Travis County Medical Society, J.B. Aust Surgical Society, Texas Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Dewan has participated in numerous research studies and articles in his specialty.
