Dr. Tammy Renee Severt, DDS

MEET DR. SEVERT
Dr. Tammy Severt is a native North Carolinian and grew up in Jefferson in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She knew at the age of 12 that she wanted to pursue a career in orthodontics based on her personal experience. “Orthodontist” is listed in her senior high school yearbook as her career goal.
Dr. Severt is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, where she completed her BS in biology in three and a half years. While in attendance at Appalachian, she was awarded membership to five academic honor societies, was honored for academic achievement by the university, selected as a junior marshal for the College of Arts and Sciences, and on the Dean’s List every semester.
Dr. Severt started Dental School at U.N.C. Chapel Hill in the fall of 1990, where she received a full scholarship for the four year course of study.  She was again on the Dean’s List every semester, named in “Who’s Who Among American Colleges and …Universities” by nomination of the faculty, and elected to membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, dentistry’s academic honor society.
Dr. Severt graduated in the top of her Dental School class in 1994 and began her orthodontic training, again at U.N.C. Chapel Hill, in the fall of that same year.  The Orthodontic Department at U.N.C. is widely recognized as one of the premiere orthodontic programs in the world.  Dr. Severt was the first recipient of the Andrew McArthur Brooks Memorial Fellowship for the three year course of study.  She received a Master’s Degree for her original research project on skeletal asymmetry and a Certificate of Orthodontics in 1997.
Upon completion of her orthodontic training and her Master’s thesis in 1997, Dr. Severt moved to Shelby, North Carolina to work full time in practice with Dr. Thomas Brown.  After two years, Chapel Hill was pulling her back!  She returned in 1999 to work with Dr. Bill Davis, and purchased his Chapel Hill (established in 1967) and Pittsboro (established in 1980) practices in August 2000.
Dr. Severt is a member of numerous professional organizations (American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, and Durham-Orange County Dental Society to name a few) and is a board certified orthodontist.  She is certified to provide Invisalign treatment, Incognito lingual (tongue-side) braces, and uses self-ligating Damon braces.  Her primary goal has always been providing excellent results for her patients in an atmosphere that is friendly and fun.  She has assembled a staff that is highly trained and motivated to provide the best possible service.
Dr. Severt and her husband, Dr. Dale Thompson, welcomed a daughter, Mariella, in December 2008.  Dr. Severt is a true blue Carolina fan and has been since she can remember!  Given the opportunity, she will try to sway you to become a Tarheel fan too!  She loves attending Carolina football and (especially) basketball games.   She enjoys spending time with family and friends, her cat (Jack), traveling, and reading.
