Dr. Terry Im, DDS, MS
Dr. Terry Im is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, specializing in non-surgical and surgical maintenance of teeth and replacement of lost teeth with implants.
At age seven, Dr. Im immigrated to the United States from Seoul, Korea with his family. He grew up in Fresno, California and after completing Bullard High School with high honors, he entered undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). At UCLA, he studied human and animal physiology and in 1998 received a Bachelors of Sciences in Biology. He continued his education at Cal Poly Pomona and finished a two year post-graduate program in Nutrition.
In 2002, Dr. Im began his journey in the field of dentistry when he was admitted into the world-renowned University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry (UCSF). During his studies at the university, he was quickly recognized by his peers and faculty for his skills and dedication to the field. Impressed with …the new techniques developed for saving teeth and technological advances in implants, Dr. Im became increasingly drawn to the field of periodontics. In 2006, after graduating from dental school at the top of his class, he gained admission to UCSF Periodontal Residency – a three year specialty program focusing on advanced surgical interventions for treatment of periodontal disease, cosmetic tissue reshaping and replacement of missing teeth with implants. During the residency, Dr. Im was recognized for his leadership and teamwork and was elected chief resident two years in a row.
Dr. Im received a Masters degree in Cranial and Facial Sciences from UCSF post-graduate division upon completion of the periodontal residency in 2009. His research was focused on halitosis, and is currently in the editorial stage of being published in the very prestigious Journal of Clinical Periodontology. Dr. Im also completed anesthesia training at the UCSF Ambulatory Center and is certified in IV conscious sedation and oral conscious sedation. He is proud to be serving Bay Area residents from Petaluma to Palo Alto and of course, his home – the city of San Francisco.
Amongst many interests, Dr. Im is passionate about education. Currently, he is a faculty member for Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Lutherin Medical Center in Oakland, CA. He is also involved in two study clubs, focusing on continuing education of general dentists. He is a mentor to many new graduates in the field of dentistry and is highly regarded by his peers.
Dr. Im is also very active in organized dentistry. He has been newly elected as a Member of the New Dentist Committee for the San Francisco Dental Society. He is affiliated with California Society of Periodontists, American Academy of Periodontology, California Dental Association and American Dental Association.
When not practicing periodontics, Dr. Im devotes his time to his family and playing golf. He lives in Daly City, CA with his wife, two kids and his best friend – the little beagle.
