Dr. Walter J. Schuyler, MD

Walter B.J. Schuyler, M.D. joined the Brunswick Eye Care team in January of 2011. Previously, he had been providing care at Brunswick Eye Care through a partnership agreement with Maine Eye Center since 1995 after thirteen years of solo practice in Portland, Maine. Since 1982 Dr. Schuyler has provided comprehensive ophthalmology care, oculoplastic care and specializes in the treatment of cataract and medical glaucoma.
Dr. Schuyler received his medical degree from the University of New Mexico. He served as a Harvard Medical School Clinical Fellow in Medicine and completed his medical-surgical internship in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He completed his Geisinger Medical Center residency in ophthalmology in 1981. He was selected as the first oculoplastic fellow at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1982.
Dr. Walter Schuyler is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Schuyler has taught medical students and …residents as a clinical professor for the University Of Vermont College Of Medicine and is now an assistant clinical professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. As a partner at Maine Eye Center he served many terms on the executive committee. While a member of The New England Ophthalmologic Society he represented Maine on The Public Health and Education Committee. He has served as chairman of the Parkview Hospital Department of Ophthalmology.
Dr Schuyler lives with his wife Kathleen in Brunswick. His three adult children are all pursuing their professional careers in the Carolinas. He enjoys cycling, sailing and follows but does not always enjoy the efforts of the Boston professional sports teams.
Dr. Schuyler retired in June of 2014 to spend more time sailing and with his new grandchild.
