Dr. Wayne Wei Kuang, MD

Wayne Kuang M.D. is recognized as the only fellowship-trained male fertility specialist in the state of New Mexico. Having trained at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, he specializes in helping couples build a healthy family through vasectomy reversal and the treatment of male infertility.
Active in numerous scientific and academic professional organizations, Dr. Kuang is committed to advancing the field of male reproduction and delivering state-of-the-art care to his patients & their partners:
In 2002, he dedicated a year to the study of sperm at the Reproductive Research Center at the Cleveland Clinic. At this center of excellence for andrology, he was trained in semen analysis, sperm washing and testing for leukocytospermia (the presence of inflammatory cells in the semen). Applying his experience as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Scholar in the field of molecular oncology, he then developed techniques to look at the integrity of sperm DNA and protein. More …importantly, this basic science research has shed light on why sperm live and how sperm swim (sperm motility).
In 2003, his analysis of 483 patients helped create and validate the CVasectomy Reversal Predictor’s computer program. This clinical advancement helps patients predict whether they will need the more complicated vasoepididymostomy. Validated at seven academic medical centers, it is >80% sensitive in accurately predicting the type of surgery that is needed for vasectomy reversal.
In 2004, he was recognized with an award at the national meeting for the American Society of Reproductive Medicine for his innovative application of Crobotic technology to vasectomy reversal.
In 2005, he analyzed the largest series of end-to-side vasoepididymostomies which was presented nationally at the 2006 meeting of the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction. He uses this work to help patients better understand their chances for success with this more complex vasectomy reversal procedure.
Currently, he is actively conducting research on a novel imaging technology that may help male fertility specialists see into the testicle and locate sperm for infertile men.
Dr. Kuang’s clinical practice uses only the latest in operating microscope technology and microsurgical equipment. His surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis where the newest most advanced techniques are applied. Dr. Kuang takes the time to individualize your care while optimizing your reproductive capacity.

When Dr. Kuang is not at work, he enjoys spending time at home with his family, hiking in the Sandia Mountains, and playing his guitar.
