Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:Apparently I said I wanted to be a “”baby doctor”” since I was five. There was never any doubt that I would be involved in the care of women, especially during the birth process. I started working in an obstetrical unit as a new graduate nurse and have been a nurse midwife since 1992. I am proud to say that I was part of bringing midwifery care to the women in York County as the first CNM to get hospital privileges. I completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a focus on care of the postpartum women with an opiate use disorder in 2018.What I want my patients to know about me:I am committed to the care of women and families. I believe that women should be partners in their care. I provide unbiased care regardless of social situations, substance use or abstinence, gender identity or sexual orientation. I am also sensitive to those with a history of sexual trauma and childhood sexual abuse. What I do when I’m not seeing patients:I try to …spend as much time as I can with my family. I have five amazing children, all with equally amazing spouses, and nine grandchildren, with one more on the way. Our Sunday dinners are epic events. Hobbies for me are photography, reading, knitting and crocheting, not necessarily in that order. I am on the board of Not One More, and founded and co-facilitate CARES, which is a support group for families with a loved one with a Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Through Not One More I also co-facilitate Family Connections, a group for grandparents raising grandchildren because of SUD, and Fences and Bridges, a group for children affected by SUD.
