My first exposure to neurology was during my undergraduate training, where some of my favorite classes focused on neuroscience. I remember being upset that I didn?t have enough time to read the entire 1,300-page textbook during the course. I get to use my talents and skills to directly improve people?s lives, one person at a time. Even patients with untreatable, fatal diseases need someone who can listen to their needs and help them maintain their dignity and quality of life. My focus is on patient education. I can empower my patients by helping them to understand their conditions. If a patient is confused when he or she walks out of a clinic visit with me, then I feel like I haven?t done my job, even if my diagnostic and medical management decisions were correct.
