Alan Sloyer, M.D. is a founding member of North Shore Gastroenterology Associates. He is a 1982 graduate of State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center, College of Medicine where received his M.D. degree with honors. He was elected a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical school honor society, in 1982. Prior to entering medical school, he attended Hofstra University where he earned a BA degree, with summa cum laude honors. He was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa in 1978.
After graduation from medical school, he entered residency training in Internal Medicine in a combined program at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York and at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. During that time, he also served as Assistant Chief Resident in the Department of Medicine. He completed this residency in 1985, and then completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 1987. During his fellowship, he was a …Paul Sherlock Fellow in Gastrointestinal Oncology as well an American Cancer Society Clinical Fellow in Oncology.
Dr. Sloyer has been in practice since July 1987. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology.
Dr. Sloyer actively participates in the education of medical students, residents in Internal Medicine, and fellows in Gastroenterology. He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Hofstra University School of Medicine. He also holds a teaching appointment at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (adjunct) in the Department of Medicine.
Dr. Sloyer has attained Fellowship in the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and the New York State Medical Society. He attends and presents at many local, national, and international meetings.
Dr. Sloyer is on the professional staffs at North Shore University Hospital (Manhasset and Glen Cove), and at St. Francis Hospital, Roslyn New York.
His interests are largely in the fields of colorectal cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. He is an expert endoscopist and performs a large number of colonoscopies and upper endoscopies each year.
