Overwiew

Dr. Hartel was raised in Henrietta, and attended University at Buffalo, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and the Golden Key and AED honor societies. He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Psychology. After spending a year working for Walt Disney World in Orlando, he returned to reality and attended Medical School at SUNY Syracuse, continuing there to complete his Internship and Residency training in Internal Medicine at Upstate University Hospital. During his training, he was awarded the first ever Resident Excellence in Teaching Award and was nominated for the Upstate Hospital Humanism Award. He has participated in research involving genetic susceptibility for Lupus, and measures of patient satisfaction. After spending a year practicing as a hospitalist in Canandaigua (which he found extremely difficult to leave), Dr. Hartel pursued further training in both pediatric and adult Allergy and Immunology at the University of South Florida. While there, he worked on multiple …immune deficiency research projects, served on the fellowship committee, was selected as a mentor to medical students and residents, and was awarded a USF superior presentation award for his research work. Through everything, his most fulfilling accomplishments have been marrying the woman of his dreams, and providing a loving, happy home in which they can watch their three daughters grow. After one too many category 4 hurricanes, the Hartel family decided to come home to Rochester, to be close to family, and to provide a beautiful, safe, hurricane-free community to raise their family. He joined AAIR in 2006 and has been appointed to Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Rochester, through which he has been active in training the medical residents and fellows. Dr. Hartel enjoys camping, bike riding, computers, golf, maintaining the family’s famous Halloween display (now in its 27th year), taking lots of pictures (with a Kodak camera of course), and especially cherishes every moment with family.
