Doctor Amirikia is Board Certified in Ophthalmology with recertification in 2009, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Biology and received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society in addition to receiving a Distinction in Biomedical Research Award. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the Kresge Eye Institute where she served as chief resident and received a resident research award. She went on to a complete a medical retina fellowship at New England Eye Center, Tufts University and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. She has authored several papers, book chapters, and abstracts in her field and has presented her findings at local, state and national scientific meetings. Currently, Doctor Amirikia is in private practice specializing in diseases and surgery of …the retina and vitreous where she is active in medical student and resident teaching. She is also a study ophthalmologist for several clinical trials. In addition she serves as the Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology and the Secretary/Treasurer at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Michigan. Doctor Amirikia comes to you with a long history of interest in and service to organized medicine. She has been actively involved in county, state, specialty, and national societies dating back to medical school as a Student Senate Liaison to the AMA and the American Medical Student Association Officer. She has been an active American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) member since graduating from the AAO Leadership Development Program IX, class of 2007 where she currently serves as a Councilor and as a member of the Surgical Scope Fund committee. She currently serves on the Board of the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons as the legislative chair where she had served as President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Program Chair.
