Dr. Christopher Burr Dechet, MD

Christopher Dechet, MD, is an assistant professor in the Division of Urology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. His practice at Huntsman Cancer Institute focuses on urologic oncology and laparoscopy.Dechet has a special interest in the surgical management of prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicular cancers. His particular interest is improvement of surgical outcomes for prostate cancer patients, and he has developed a comprehensive quality-of-life database for this purpose. Dechet also has extensive experience in advanced laparoscopic treatment of renal cancer and has further applied his laparoscopic skills to prostate cancer with the use of the DaVinci Prostatectomy robotic system.Dechet received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He was the recipient of an American Heart Association research grant during his medical training. He completed a general surgery internship and …urologic residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he received an achievement award from the Society for Laparoscopic Surgeons. Prior to joining Huntsman Cancer Institute, Dechet was the chair of the Division of Urology at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.
