Dr. Zitnay is a graduate of Bowdoin College (1986);
and earned his masters degree at Georgetown University (1987). His medical education was at University of Virginia (1987-1991). He completed his internship at University of Vermont (1992) and finished his internal medicine residency at University of Virginia in 1994. After working one year at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles in general medicine (1994-1995), Dr. Zitnay returned to UVA to complete his endocrinology fellowship (1995-1998). During his fellowship, he had several research papers published and he served as Medical Director of the Charlottesville Free Clinic. After fellowship, Dr. Zitnay worked as an endocrinologist in Washington, DC for one year (1998-1999) and returned to Charlottesville in 1999-2010 to practice endocrinology in his own solo practice. During this first year, he served as Medical Director of the John Jane Brain Injury Center.
