Dr. Thoresen is a general cardiologist who specializes in invasive, non-interventional cardiology.
After earning his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin, he did his internship, residency and fellowship at the University of Cincinnati. He joined Ohio Heart and Vascular Center in 1996.
Dr. Thoresen takes a less formal approach to his work. He refuses to wear a white doctor’s coat, and he saves his one suit for weddings and funerals. Many of his patients call him by his first name, “Chris” or “Doctor Chris,” and he loves it. “Patients are part of my extended family, and we even exchange Christmas cards.”
In the office, he tells his patients, “The key to living long is exercise.” And away from his busy practice, he follows his own advice. He rides bikes, both mountain and road. He runs, he skis, he snowboards, he water-skis, he hikes and he climbs. The only laid-back sport he pursues is fishing.
Dr. Thoresen has three children, two girls and a boy, and he’s a very …involved father. He has volunteered as a coach and participated in a program called Indian Guides and Princesses. He was known as “Chief Braveheart.”
His idea of bliss is being on top of a snow-covered mountain, ready to down it on a set of skis. Dr. Thoresen admits he doesn’t like to sit around. “The truth is,” he confesses, “I wish I didn’t ever have to sleep.”
