About Dr. Morrison
After graduation with a science degree, Colleen Morrison, MD, took her first job in a cancer research lab. “I was most intellectually curious about the patients and their life experience,” she said. “[I] felt I could be useful and could make a meaningful impact on their lives by helping them through a difficult process.”
Born and raised in Mishawaka, Dr. Morrison said it has been very meaningful and fulfilling to return to and contribute to the community she grew up in. Throughout her career, she has maintained a focus on helping children of all ages achieve their full health potential for physical, emotional and mental health. “I currently do this by being a general pediatrician, but previously did this for 17 years as a pediatric hematologist-oncologist [at Beacon’s Children Hospital],” she says.
Dr. Morrison received her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. Morrison completed a residency in Pediatrics at Loyola …University Medical Center and a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation at Northwestern University’s Anne and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Dr. Morrison is board-certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Hematology Oncology.
She has always loved being with and around children and parents and guardians. Listening and developing a partnership with patients and families is part of her approach to medicine. “I like to listen, identify problems or concerns and find solutions. My philosophy is to help where help is needed; take the necessary steps to help a child achieve their greatest overall life potential so they can go and do their thing,” Dr. Morrison says.
Through the years, she has learned from her patients that you can look a great challenge in the face and conquer it. She adds, “Life is precious. Be sure to stay in tune with yourself and your family.”
