Originally from Michigan, Daniel Drake, M.D. graduated with a B.A. in physics from Earlham College with honors and the R.L. Malcolm Premedical Award. He continued at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor and graduated in 1982 with clinical honors. He completed his general surgical internship and residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital/ University of Texas Southwestern Affiliated Hospitals in Dallas Texas in 1988 and received the Robert N. McClelland Academic Excellence Award. He then went on the University of Michigan for cardiothoracic residency finishing in 1990. He has published numerous scientific papers and a book chapter. He has been an invited lecturer at the National Center for Advanced Medical Education in Chicago and is a past president of the Michigan Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons.
