Dr. Dennis Smith

Dr. Smith is one of the nations leading bariatric (weight loss) surgeons and serves as Director of Bariatric Surgery for WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Dr. Smith is one of a limited number of surgeons in the U.S. who regularly perform all four major bariatric operations laparoscopically (with minimally invasive techniques). He has been performing bariatric procedures since 1997 and was one of the first surgeons in the world to perform a totally laparoscopic Duodenal Switch (DS). Dr. Smith was the first to present the Hand-Sewn Duodenal Anastomosis technique for the DS. In 1999 he founded the WellStar Bariatric Surgery Program, which was named a Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery in 2005.
