At just 9 years old, Dr. Gary experienced the profound impact of health on life when his father, a young minister, passed away at 39 after battling numerous health issues. This pivotal moment ignited a deep commitment in Dr. Gary to dedicate his life to promoting health and well-being. “It made such a strong impact on me that I vowed to commit my life to helping people be healthy. I love being a doctor and a health coach, helping others heal, and empowering them to take charge of their lives and become their best.”
Dr. Gary pursued Pre-Med and Music at L.A. Pierce Junior College and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for five years. At 21, his health took a drastic turn following a severe whiplash injury from a car accident, compounded by mercury toxicity from amalgam fillings. Within three months, he experienced alarming symptoms such as hair loss, pale skin, and dark circles under his eyes.
Finding relief through natural healthcare practices—such …as applied kinesiology, chiropractic care, detoxification protocols, and nutritional therapy—he was inspired to change his career path. He studied nutrition extensively and earned a degree as a Nutritional Technician. His journey in natural healing continued as he worked as a nutritional and fitness consultant for four years.
Though he was accepted into Naturopathic Medical School, restrictions in California at the time required another path. After researching all of the different healing professions and what they had to offer, he and his wife, Dr. Lisa decided that becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) was the most well-rounded healing art for their path in California.
In 1987, Dr. Gary graduated with honors from Palmer West College of Chiropractic, specializing in Applied Kinesiology due to its holistic perspective and impressive results. That same year, he and Dr. Lisa founded Health in Balance with a mission to transform lives through an integrative approach, fostering active, healthy, and pain-free living.
Their dedicated team, including Dr. Gary and Dr. Lisa, has worked with professional and Olympic athletes, and Dr. Gary has served as the sports doctor for the Women’s Professional Volleyball Association and Laguna Beach High School athletic teams. Thousands of patients have benefited from their care, finding relief from pain and revitalizing their lives.
The Arthur family enjoys a fulfilling life with their four children, sharing their inspiring message of health through television programs, educational seminars, and community involvement in Laguna Beach and beyond.
