Gary Chmielewski, MD, FACS, is board-certified in both thoracic surgery and general surgery. He earned his medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He completed an internship and general surgery residency at Wayne State University Detroit Medical Center in Michigan, where he became chief resident. He continued at Wayne State University, completing a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery. He is a founding member of the thoracic surgical group at Beaumont Hospitals in Royal Oak, Michigan where he became an early adopter of minimally invasive thoracic surgery techniques. Dr. Chmielewski also served as an associate professor in the division of thoracic surgery, where he developed their thoracic robotic surgery program. In 2019, Dr. Chmielewski became the chief of thoracic surgery at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. While there, he also served as the regional director of thoracic surgery for the Advocate Health Care system. Dr. …Chmielewski developed a thoracic surgery team that was ranked 40th in US News and World Report as a hospital program. He is the author of numerous publications, book chapters, and presentations throughout his career.
