Dr. John Chung-Kai Chan, MD

Gynecological Cancer Dr. John K. Chan is Director of Gynecologic Oncology and a specialist in the surgical and medical treatment of ovarian and other complex pelvic cancers at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. As Director, Chan oversees the division’s activities in patient care, research and education. His research focuses on developing new therapies for gynecologic cancers including gene therapy, cellular immunotherapy and targeted biologic therapy. These projects have resulted in more than 100 articles and abstracts in journals such as Lancet Oncology, Cancer Research, Journal of Clinical Oncology and others as well as multiple book chapters. Chan is the John A. Kerner Distinguished Professor in Gynecologic Oncology at UCSF and a principal investigator in several clinical trials, with an emphasis on ovarian cancer, in the Gynecologic Oncology Group. He has received numerous grants from the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, Gynecologic Cancer Foundation and …UCSF Gynecologic Oncology Group. Chan is on the board of directors of the American Cancer Society Northern California Chinese Unit. He is fluent in Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and medical Spanish. Prior to joining UCSF, Chan was a cancer specialist at the Stanford Cancer Center.
