John K. Wakelin III grew up on Sylvania, Ohio before attending Xavier University and receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Magna Cum Laude. He attended Xavier as a Service Fellow, which gave him the opportunity to perform volunteer service at several Cincinnati agencies, while on a full scholarship. From there Dr. Wakelin went to The Ohio State University College of Medicine and received his M.D. While at Ohio State he was fortunate enough to discover his calling, Plastic Surgery. After completing three years of General Surgery residency at Mt. Carmel, Dr Wakelin completed Plastic Surgery residency at Ohio State Medical Center. He also remains active in his community and continues to volunteer his time to numerous organizations locally, nationally, and internationally. Dr. Wakelin has made recent trips to Egypt, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Peru with Operation Smile, performing cleft lip and palate surgeries for children and adults.
