Dr. John Matthew Runnels, MD

John Matthew Runnels, a Flowood, MS native, joined the GI Associates family in 2009 and is one of the gastroenterologists at the Flowood GI Associates and Endoscopy Center and the Madison GI Associates and Endoscopy Center. Dr. Runnels received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He went on to pursue his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Mississippi Medical School where he also completed his residency and fellowship. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Runnels has received several honors and awards including the University of Mississippi Department of Internal Medicine with Resident of the Year and Fellow of the Year awards. He was also recognized at the Mississippi State Medical Association Annual Meeting with the Caldwell Award for Resident of the Year. He is active in research and has authored several publications and numerous abstracts as well …as presenting his research at local and national GI conferences. Dr. Runnels is affiliated with most major hospitals in the area and is accepting new patients.
