Dr. Joseph Charles Beck, MD

Dr. Beck earned his medical degree from Finch University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School, and holds a bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Rochester. During his residency,he pursued specialties in both internal medicine and psychiatry at Rush University Medical Center from 2000 to 2005 (chief resident 2003/04). This appealed to his interest in the mind-body connection, and how mental health can affect chronic disease and its treatment. After his five-year residency was completed, Dr. Beck advanced his specialization in the field of psychiatry by completing a fellowship in addiction psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, Center for Addiction. During this 12-month fellowship, Dr. Beck immersed himself the emerging field of pain medicine. The tenets of pain medicine include understanding some forms of pain as a chronic medical disease. The concept of treating chronic pain as a disease of the whole person, not simply anatomy or psychology, melds …well with Dr. Beck’s previous training and philosophy. This holistic approach also applies to his work in the area of addiction. To combat substance dependence,Dr. Beck treats his patients with cutting edge psychological and pharmacological approaches. Dr. Beck is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, and a diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
