Pain, especially intractable or chronic pain, used to be something many patients simply had to learn to “live” with. In recent years, however, we have learned a great deal about pain and its physiological and psychological basis, leading to pain management treatments that can provide complete or partial pain relief.
Such conditions are:
Back and neck pain
Cancer or cancer therapy related pain
Cervicogenic headache and occipital neuralgia
Chest Wall Pain
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy)
Disc disease
Facet syndrome
Failed back surgery
Intractable angina, pelvic pain, or abdominal pain
Ischemic pain from peripheral vascular disease
Limb pain
Nerve entrapment
Peripheral neuropathy
Phantom limb/stump pain
Post herpetic neuralgia (pain from shingles)
Radiculopathy (Sciatica)
Sacroiliac joint pain
Spinal stenosis
Non-operative knee pain
What is pain management?
In spine and musculoskeletal pain cases, pain management is …usually distinguished from surgical treatment, and is employed as an alternative to surgery as part of an aggressive conservative care program, or after surgery to cope with residual or recalcitrant pain. Pain management and the techniques it uses also help to identify the source of neck and back pain, determine the areas to be addressed surgically, and rehabilitate the patient after surgery.
Procedures commonly performed:
Epidural steroid injections
Transforaminal injections
Facet blocks
Nerve Injections for headaches, abdominal and pelvic pain
Sacro-Iliac joint blocks
Radiofrequency denervation
IDET
Disc Decompression
Pain pumps
Spinal cord stimulators
Most of the procedures are performed in an office based surgical facility with the best contemporary equipment available. 25-gauge needles are utilized for most procedures making them virtually discomfort free (the same size as some acupuncture needles).
Dr. Chapman works closely with some of the citys top spine and orthopedic surgeons both in performing diagnostic injections and for referral when necessary. Diagnostic injections include discography and selective nerve root injections, which allow the surgery to be more precise.
Pain management is one of the fastest-developing and most dynamic fields in medicine. Be sure to see a fellowship trained, board certified pain management specialist. We offes compassionate patient care with the most up to date medically proven treatments.
