Dr. Louis Astra

Dr. Astra holds board certification as a cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon and as a general surgeon. Born in Philadelphia, he received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania before heading to medical school at the University of Pittsburgh. He continued his medical training via an internship and residency at Wayne State University’s Detroit Medical Center prior to undertaking a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Ohio State University. Dr. Astra has advanced training in robotic-assisted surgery and specializes in treating patients with benign and malignant lung disease and esophageal disorders; cardiac disorders including atrial fibrillation, heart arrhythmia, aortic disease, stenosis and heart valve disease; and peripheral vascular disease. He also offers the latest diagnostic procedures for lung concerns and performs minimally invasive venous surgery and cardiac device implantation.
