Mustafa I. Ahmed MD is a scientist and cardiologist in Birmingham, Alabama.

After obtaining his MD at the Victoria University of Manchester he took postgraduate positions at the Manchester Royal Infirmary then the Queens Medical Center in England. He then moved to University of Alabama at Birmingham where he completed training in Cardiology, Interventional and Structural Heart Disease and Research. His areas of expertise include heart valve disease, mitral regurgitation, hypertension and resistant hypertension, structural heart disease, pulmonary embolism and coronary artery …disease.
Dr Ahmed worked as part of the landmark $18,000,000 SCCOR translational research grant. In addition to general training, he received clinical training from internationally renowned experts in valvular and surgical heart disease, echocardiography and in resistant hypertension. Dr Ahmed has multiple ( > 75 ) scientific publications and several awards. He is internationally recognized in areas including Valvular and Surgical Heart Disease. He has authored several papers in leading journals regarding mitral valve disease that have led to investigation of new treatments.
