Dr. Nicholas Tranakas, MD

Nicholas Tranakas, MD, is the Medical Director of Cancer Services for Broward Health and of the Comprehensive Breast Center at Broward Health Medical Center. Dr. Tranakas received his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completed his internship, residency and a fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Miami School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial. His honors and awards include the American Cancer Society Clinical Oncology Fellowship, the Doris Faircloth/Alfred Ketcham Surgical Oncology Fellow Award and recognition as Most Valuable Physician at Broward Health Medical Center. He is a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and has presented his research on cancer and laparoscopic surgery before a number of professional societies. Dr. Tranakas is a clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He serves as a consultant in surgery for the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Miami. He is …current president of the Broward County Division of the American Cancer Society and serves on the executive board of Gilda’s Club of South Florida. He frequently is asked to provide authoritative interviews for news stories about cancer. Dr. Tranakas lives in Fort Lauderdale with his wife and three children. His hobbies include backgammon, racketball and boating.
