N. Hans Rechsteiner MD FACS has been in the specialty practice of General Surgery in Spooner since 1982. He is originally from Monroe, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis and University of Minnesota-Duluth Medical schools. His internship was in surgery at the University of South Dakota at Yankton. He competed his residency training in General Surgery in 1982 at the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield. Rechsteiner was Board Certified in General Surgery in 1983 and re-certified in 1994 and 2005. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Rechsteiner has always had an interest in community service and volunteer projects. He was the president of the board of directors of the Civic Center for 10 years during the planning, development and construction. He was also instrumental in starting the Spooner Redevelopment Authority, the Spooner Lake Rehabilitation District (president of the Board of Directors for several years) and the Railroad Museum …(president of the Board of Directors for several years). He has been a member of the Spooner Community Choir for 25 years. His passion is volleyball (and wallyball) and research on longevity. Rechsteiner’s practice is quite broad. He does surgery of mainly the abdomen, but also limited obstetrical, gynecological, orthopedic, urological, breast, etc. He also does endoscopy, and has done over 8,000 colonoscopies. His favorite surgery is Cesarean Section, having done over 900.
