When Dr. Junaidi started medical school at age 19 (which is not unusual in Pakistan where medical school begins after high school), he was sure he wanted to practice emergency medicine. In his senior year, he traveled to the United States as a visiting student, but he would have to complete a gastroenterology rotation at Northwestern University in Chicago before the ER rotation began at Harvard the following month. But after the first week in the ER, Dr. Junaidi knew it wasn’t right for him. “What I missed was the patient follow-up, the rapport you develop with patients. I realized quickly how important that was to me,” says Dr. Junaidi.
Dr. Junaidi received his MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) from Dow Medical College, University of Karachi in Karachi, Pakistan in 2000. He subsequently completed a research fellowship at Freedman Laboratory, Division of Gastroenterology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard University in Boston, …Massachusetts.
Dr. Junaidi completed his residency in Internal Medicine, including serving as Chief Resident, and highly-competitive fellowships in Gastroenterology and Hepatology as well as Advanced Hepatology at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri.
His faculty appointments included serving as Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at St. Louis University’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Dr. Junaidi is proud to have trained and served on the faculty with some of the country’s best hematologists.
