Dr. Peter W. Cho is a surgeon in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Sinai Hospital. He joined LifeBridge Health in 2004.After graduating as Valedictorian from the Gilman School, a prominent preparatory school in Baltimore, Dr. Cho attended Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, graduating with honors in 1985. After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Cho received his training in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. At Johns Hopkins, he completed a two-year basic research fellowship in cardiac surgery and was chief resident of the general surgery and general thoracic surgery programs. He also completed a clinical fellowship in mitral valve repair with Professor Alain Carpentier at H?’pital Broussais in Paris.Dr. Cho invented the cavo-atrial cannula for cardiopulmonary bypass, a device designed to minimize cardiac tissue damage during heart surgery. He has also received a number of prestigious honors, …including the William S. Halsted Prize in Surgery (1989) and George D. Zuidema Surgical Research Award (1993) from Johns Hopkins University.Dr. Cho is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His areas of special interest include mitral valve repair, aortic reconstruction, and procedures for atrial fibrillation.
