Robert B. Slease, MD, brings more than 30 years of experience practicing hematology to his job as chief of Christiana Care’s Hematology Section.
Dr. Slease earned his medical degree in 1972 from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He spent the next five years at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., as an intern and resident in internal medicine and a fellow in hematology and oncology.
His experience practicing in the specialty includes staff physician jobs at the National Naval Medical Center from 1977 to 1979 and at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., from 1980 to 1990. He was also clinical director of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center’s Oklahoma Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Dr. Slease joined Christiana Care in 1990 as a staff hematologist. He served as director of Christiana’s Bone Marrow Transplantation Program from 1999 to 2003. He was named chief of the …Hematology Section in 2003.
Dr. Slease is an active teacher and researcher in his field. Past academic appointments include: assistant professor of medicine for Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.; clinical assistant professor of medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.; and professor of medicine at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. He was also director of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Training Program at University of Oklahoma.
He currently serves as clinical professor of medicine at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He also is an associate member of the university’s Cardeza Foundation for Hematologic Research, which investigates the causes of blood diseases and diagnoses patients in this specialty.
