Dr. Schmitz is a native of Kansas City, MO but has lived in North Carolina since 2001, when he joined Charlotte Gastroenterology & Hepatology. He holds memberships with several professional organizations including: the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), the Mecklenburg County Medical Society (MCMS), the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS), and the North Carolina Society for Gastroenterology (NCSG). Outside of work, Dr. Schmitz enjoys taking family vacations with his wife and two daughters and is a member at Saint Matthews Catholic Church. He stays active by participating in golf, skiing, running, scuba diving, core body fitness, and exterior gardening. In his downtime, Dr. Schmitz enjoys watching University of Kansas basketball.
