Hi! Thanks for visiting my Web page. I am the director of pediatric endocrinology at Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center. Besides my given name, I go by Dr. Happy. This nickname was given to me by my mother when I was born. Trying to stay happy is one way I also stay healthy.
Biography
The field of pediatric endocrinology encompasses a wide range of hormone-related concerns—growth, puberty, conditions of the thyroid and adrenal glands, and diabetes, to name a few. I chose to be a pediatric endocrinologist because I love the logic and order in the complexity of the hormonal pathways. I was always drawn to topics of endocrinology as a medical student.
About my practice
I believe strongly that being a good physician begins with really listening to the patient. It is only with attention to detail that a trusting rapport can develop, whereby parents and the physician can help keep a child happy and healthy. For our diabetes practice, we have developed a team approach that …includes the physician, a diabetes educator, a nurse, a social worker, and a clinical psychologist. With a team encompassing the care of our diabetics, we hope to provide the support necessary to help a diabetic realize a full life while managing his or her condition.
How I thrive
Kaiser Permanente’s philosophy encourages us to balance our work and family lives with proper eating and exercise. I enjoy spending time with my family and playing golf when I get the chance. I eat raw vegetables with my dinner daily and exercise three times a week, lifting weights and doing cardiovascular exercises. I also try to giggle often with my children, who keep me young.
