Dr. Obey is an award-winning physician and thought leader in women’s health. She has been providing quality women’s health services for 20 years. Dr. Obey is recognized as a leader in her field. She is committed to providing compassionate care to patients. She believes in providing patients with all their options, and partners with patients to help them make the best-informed decision possible. Patients have traveled hundreds of miles to receive care through Dr. Obey.
Dr. Obey received her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Immunology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge Louisiana in 1993. She went on to become a Research Technologist at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas where she conducted Influenza research for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for 3 years before leaving benchwork to enter medical school. Dr. Obey received her Medical Doctorate from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Lubbock Texas. She went on from there to complete her …OB/GYN residency at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit Michigan, where she trained with some of the best and brightest academicians in her field. Dr. Obey is a staunch advocate for women’s rights and women’s empowerment and firmly believes that a woman’s reproductive freedom is hers and hers alone.
Dr. Obey has never been content with the status quo. For decades she has been on the front lines of working to end racial disparities and gender disparities in healthcare. It was during her medical training that Dr. Obey developed a conviction for bridging the gap of racial inequities in maternal health and that passion has never wavered. After completing her residency in 2004, Dr. Obey returned to the South to open a medical practice in Texas. She ran a successful solo practice for 10 years.
In 2014 Dr. Obey relocated to Southern California with her fraternal twins to work as an OB Hospitalist where she took on a leadership role as a Site Director. Her goal was to improve access to care for all women as well as improve the quality of care that underserved women received. In the last 10 years, Dr. Obey has provided emergency care to high-risk patients in high-acuity settings, and supervised nurse practitioners and certified nurse midwives in federally qualified health centers in both Pasadena and the San Fernando Valley before deciding to return to self-employment to open an OB/GYN, complex family planning, wellness, and aesthetics clinic in the Inland Empire.
In addition to her busy schedule as a physician and mother, and in keeping with her local and global mission to effect positive change, Dr. Obey is completing a master’s degree in public health from one of the top public health institutions in the nation, the Milken Institute of Public Health at The George Washington University located in Washington D.C. This is the only school of public health in our nation’s capital. Through GWU, Dr. Obey has been afforded the opportunity to learn from distinguished faculty, researchers, policymakers, and other leaders who are instrumental in shaping the landscape of public health. Her vision is to intersect her vast clinical experience and social activism with the public health sector. Dr. Obey’s interests in the transdisciplinary field of public health include community and population health, program implementation, and health policy and law centered around improving access to care for Black women and others who are marginalized.
Dr. Obey also has an interest in addressing how climate change adversely impacts pregnancy. In addition, Dr. Obey specializes in obesity management. Taking a holistic approach to medicine, Dr. Obey also offers services in functional medicine in areas specific to her field. Dr. Obey has been a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service organization for more than 30 years. She offers her services to all women in the San Bernardino, Riverside, and Los Angeles Counties. She is affiliated with San Antonio Regional Hospital, Pomona Valley Hospital, and Medical Center, and Riverside Community Hospital.  In addition to having a California medical license, Dr. Obey also holds medical licenses in Texas, Oregon, and Indiana and offers telehealth visits to patients in these states. Dr. Obey resides in the Inland Empire with her talented twins.
