Sherry Royster is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHC-S)in the state of North Carolina and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor Supervisor (LCPC-S) in the state of Maryland who has over 15 years of licensed experience working with adults, adolescents, couples and families in a variety of settings. Sherry’s areas of clinical expertise include mood stabilization, reduction of avoidance and phobias, management of obsessions and compulsions, management of social anxiety, behavior modification, management of gaming and gambling additions, assistance adjusting to new and difficult situations, conflict resolution skills, stress management skills, anger management skills, and creating new communication patterns and interactions. Sherry completed her Master of Arts (MA) in Psychology with a Professional Counseling Specialty atArgosy University. Sheutilizes solution-focused treatment approaches based in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational …interviewing to achieve change. These approaches develop self-efficacy (can-do attitude and confidence) and internal motivation for change and can produce observable progress. Change is NOT always easy but it is NOT impossible. Sherry believes that one of the main ingredients in the change process is the trust placed in the relationship between counselor and client. Clients have to feel safe enough to become vulnerable to explore hurt and pain, allowing themselves to speak very private thoughts. To become open and vulnerable requires trust that the counselor knows what they are doing to protect them from further harm, will support them through difficulty, and will guide them to a place of greater growth. Sherry is looking forward to meeting you in person to assist you in your journey towards change and healing.
