Dr. Sonia Vedvyas Bahlani, MD

Dr. Bahlani completed her Doctor of Medicine at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, VA. Following medical school, Dr. Bahlani completed her residency in OB/GYN at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She joined the Smith Institute following a fellowship in Urology under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Moldwin, a pioneer in the field of pelvic pain.
Dr. Bahlani completed her undergraduate degree at Virginia Commonwealth University graduating Magna Cum Laude. She is the 2014 recipient of the Marinoff Career Development Award from the National Vulvodynia Association. This award allows Dr. Bahlani to continue her clinical and research interests in the treatment of vulvodynia and sexual pain. She has also been invited to present her research at multiple conferences including the International Association for the Study of Pain, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, and the American Urologic Association. She has …published in top national and international journals.
Dr. Bahlani’s unique and specialized training allows her to treat patients with urologic and gynecologic pelvic pain syndromes. Her clinical interests involve treating patients with pelvic pain including vulvodynia, pelvic floor dysfunction, interstitial cystitis, and vulvar dermatoses, and female sexual dysfunction.
As a clinician, Dr. Bahlani’s priority is treating patients with compassion. She is excited by a field that enables her to practice comprehensive patient- centered care.
