Dr. Steven Blaine Katsis, MD

A native of Kiowa, Kansas, Dr. Fisher attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He earned his medical degree in 1993 from the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa, where he received the Provost Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence. Dr. Fisher completed his residency training in general surgery at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. Before joining Surgical Associates, he was in private practice in Woodward, Oklahoma.
Among Dr. Fisher’s special interests is bariatric surgery, a subspecialty of general surgery devoted to the treatment of severe obesity. Clinically severe obesity is a disease that correlates with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or being 100 pounds overweight. Dr. Fisher’s use of the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure, a recent advancement in the surgical treatment of obesity, has improved the lives of many patients. Bariatric surgery is never performed for cosmetic purposes, but is used to …treat morbid obesity, a dangerous condition associated with greatly increased cardiovascular risk factors and other health problems.
In addition to bariatric surgery, Dr. Fisher has special interests in trauma care, surgical oncology, laparoscopic surgery, and peripheral vascular surgery. He is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, and serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery for the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Fisher is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Oklahoma State Medical Association, the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association, the Tulsa Osteopathic Medical Society, the Tulsa County Medical Society, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Fisher is a certified instructor in the Advanced Trauma Life Support program.
