Thomas Goodell, MD, joined the Family Practice Clinic at SLV Regional Medical Center in early August. His belief that “people who are sick today should get seen today” is one his co-workers share. “These are our neighbors and our friends,” he said. “If we were sick we’d want to be seen, so they should be seen and they should be seen in a nice environment by nice people.”
A Connecticut native, Dr. Goodell graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine in Buffalo, New York in 1981. From there, he served in the Army for seven years and then he went on to join medical practices in Boise, Idaho; Laramie, Wyoming; and Trinidad, Colorado, before making the most recent trip over La Veta Pass to work at SLVRMC. “My wife Barbara and I like smaller towns,” he said of his motivation to work in Alamosa. “We like the location and the climate and it is not far from our two grandchildren in Denver.”
He chose a career in Family Medicine because of the opportunity to see patients of all …ages with a variety of medical problems. “I think the more general issue is helping people with medical problems control them as simply as possible and avoid complications,” Dr. Goodell said.
