There are no questions!
I saw Elaine about five years ago for roughly a year and a half. During that time, I often felt dismissed and misunderstood. She repeatedly tried to diagnose me with conditions that didn’t reflect my reality, and instead of listening to my concerns, she seemed more focused on fitting me into a diagnosis that didn’t fit.
At one point, she took me off a medication I had been stable on for over ten years. I was vulnerable then, and the consequences were devastating. Without that stability, I ended up in a dangerous relationship that escalated into severe physical abuse. I was beaten and ended up in the ER. It’s hard to describe how much it means to have a provider who listens—really listens—and supports you, especially when your mental health is already on shaky ground. The contrast between Elaine and the doctor I eventually found—who truly heard me and helped me stay on track—was night and day.
Looking back, I can’t help but feel that people’s lives are too fragile for this kind of carelessness. I hope Elaine reconsiders her place in healthcare, because what happened to me could have been prevented with compassion and attentiveness.
