Dr. Ernest Graypel, based in St. Louis, Missouri, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Community and Long-Term Care Psychiatry. As the Medical Director of his practice, he oversees all clinical operations, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and managing a dedicated team of healthcare professionals.
Dr. Graypel’s medical journey includes roles as an Associate Professor, clinical practitioner, and a researcher. Initially trained abroad, Dr. Graypel successfully balanced his commitment to family and career while practicing internal medicine for several years in the former Soviet Union. After bringing his family to the United States over 30 years ago, he successfully managed a home healthcare business and several assisted living facilities prior to transitioning to psychiatry.
In his clinical practice, Dr. Graypel specializes in an integrated approach to mental health care, adeptly combining medications, psychotherapies, and esketamine treatment modalities …to address a wide range of psychiatric conditions in his patients. His extensive leadership experience includes serving as the medical director of behavioral health at St. Anthony’s hospital, managing correctional psychiatry for the state of Missouri, and serving as psychiatric director at several rehabilitation hospitals in St. Louis area.  Dr. Graypel also is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Administrators.
Dr. Graypel currently provides psychiatric care in long-term care facilities, outpatient settings, and consults for several hospitals in the St. Louis area. He has recently authored a book, Graypel’s Review of Dementias and Adult Cognitive Impairments for Non-psychiatrists, that provides valuable insights and guidance for non-psychiatric providers of geriatric care and for the caregivers for elderly.
Dr. Graypel’s dedication to patient care is complemented by his academic contributions. He serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at A.T. Still University and has been a clinical instructor at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and an adjunct faculty member at Harris-Stowe State University.
Outside of his professional achievements, Dr. Graypel’s personal life reflects his commitment to his family and community. His journey to the United States showcases his determination and resilience, qualities that continue to benefit his patients and colleagues. Dr. Graypel’s dedication to excellence in healthcare led to his nomination as a lifetime member of Trademark Top Doctors of America.
