Introduction and Experience
Theodore C. Friedman, M.D., Ph.D., founded Dr. Friedman’s Endocrinology Clinic in 2000 and went to telemedicine with the pandemic in 2020. He now sees patients both via telemedicine and in person at his Beverly Hills clinic. His practice focuses on treating patients with hard-to-treat adrenal, pituitary, thyroid, and fatigue disorders. With privileges at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Martin Luther King, Jr. Outpatient Center, where he is the lead endocrinologist and director of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services Diabetes/Endocrinology Workgroup, Dr. Friedman is recognized for his 30-year expertise in detecting and treating hormone imbalances, including hormone replacement therapy, PCOS, and adrenal and thyroid disorders. Additionally, he is renowned for his specialization in diagnosing and treating pituitary disorders. Dr. Friedman was trained in the famous Cushing’s ward at the NIH in the 1990s and has diagnosed more than 2000 patients …with Cushing’s disease, possibly more than any other Endocrinologist in the country. He is compassionate, a good listener, and willing to “think outside the box”.
Why see Dr. Friedman and not your local Endocrinologist:
Dr. Friedman thinks outside the box and is willing to look beyond standard testing and treatment approaches.
Dr. Friedman is an expert in pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal issues as well as several other endocrine conditions, while most endocrinologists specialize in diabetes or just thyroid disease.
Dr. Friedman is well-trained and knows the Endocrine literature well.
Dr. Friedman is not beholden to protocols that many university-based Endocrinologists need to follow.
Dr. Friedman listens and cares.
Dr. Friedman works with you and not against you.
A new patient who wants to be seen by Dr. Friedman can usually get in within a few weeks as opposed to months for other Endocrinologists who are booking out several months.
Dr. Friedman has seen and diagnosed more patients with Cushing’s disease, growth hormone deficiency or adrenal insufficiency in a month than most Endocrinologists see in a lifetime.
Philosophy and Commitment to Endocrine Care
Dr. Friedman’s career embodies a steadfast dedication to understanding and treating endocrine problems. Holding both medical and research doctoral degrees, he has conducted groundbreaking studies and provided exemplary patient care at esteemed institutions such as the University of Michigan, the National Institutes of Health, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, where he is Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine. In addition to be an Endocrinologist and a member of the Endocrine Society since 1990, Dr. Friedman is also a member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) and tries to incorporate the 6 pillars of lifestyle medicine (better diet, more exercise, better sleep, reducing stress, avoiding risky behaviors and better relationships) to complement, but not replace his approach to patients with Endocrine disorders.
Honors & Awards:
Dr. Friedman was Valedictorian of East High School (Denver) and Graduated with Distinction from Stanford University. He received his MD-PhD from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, did his residency at the University of Michigan Hospitals, and did his fellowship in Endocrinology at the NIH where he was on the famous Cushing’s ward. Dr. Friedman is a Professor of Medicine-In-Residence Series, Step VI at UCLA and Professor of Internal Medicine-Career Academic Series, Step VI at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science, where he is Endowed Professorship for Cardio-Metabolic Medicine and was Professor of the Year in 2013. He was trained as a Champion Provider to Prevent Obesity at UCSF and is on the Medical Advisory Board of EmpowHer, women’s Health. He was recognized for his contribution to the Magic Foundation where he frequently speaks at their annual convention.
Dr. Friedman has published more than 140 peer-reviewed publications related to Endocrinology and received over 30 NIH and other grants. He wrote The Adrenal Gland and The Thyroid Gland chapters in the main Medicine textbook, Cecil Essentials of Medicine in 2007, 2010, 2015, and 2022.
Professional Memberships & Associations
In addition to being a board-certified Endocrinologist a member of the Endocrine Society since 1990 and a member of the American Diabetes Association, Dr.
