Amy M. Jean, M.D., a member of Wheeling Hospital’s Center for Pediatrics, is the only pediatric endocrinologist between Pittsburgh and Columbus and just one of three in West Virginia. Her practice primarily focuses on the care of children from infancy up to 18 years of age with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Her prior research interests and expertise focused on the prevention and treatment of obesity and its co-morbidities, such as insulin resistance or pre-diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, premature adrenarche and metabolic syndrome.
Dr. Jean also treats children with short stature, early and late puberty, congenital hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism, Grave’s disease or hyperthyroidism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia and hypoglycemia. She received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Pennsylvania and her medical degree from the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University. Dr. Jean completed her pediatric residency at …Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and her endocrine fellowship at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York, part of the Columbia University Medical Center. She is an adjunct provisional professor at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Dr. Jean is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, and is a member of the American Diabetes Association, the Endocrine Society, the Pediatric Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
