Dr. Charles Anthony Gatto, MD

Dr. Gatto is the Director of The Tri-County Spine Center at Tri-County Orthopedics and the Chief of the Spine Section for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Morristown Memorial Hospital of Atlantic Health.
He received his Doctorate of Medicine from the Albany Medical College of Union University in Albany, New York. He stayed there and went on to complete his Internship and Residency in Orthopedic Surgery, as well as his Fellowship in Disease, Disorders, and Surgery of the Spine. While in Albany, he received The Barnett Award for Excellence in Medicine and The Clark Award for Excellence in Research. He also served as Chief Resident in his final year of training and was an Attending Surgeon on staff for orthopedic trauma as a Clinical Instructor in Orthopedic Surgery.
After completing his Fellowship, Dr. Gatto accepted a position as an Attending Surgeon and Clinical Assistant Professor on staff at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, where he serves as the Chief of …Spine for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Each year since 2006, the Consumers Research Council of America has named him as one of America’s Top Physicians in Spine Surgery.
Dr. Gatto is Board-Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has extensive training in all aspects of spine surgery, with a particular interest in spine trauma, degenerative spinal disorders, sports-related spinal conditions, and the advancement of minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Gatto’s approach to treatment is very conservative, fully utilizing all diagnostic options and preferring to exhaust all non-operative avenues before considering surgery.
In his free time, Dr. Gatto enjoys spending time with his family, sports and hockey, and training for triathlon sprints.
