Dr. Charles Edward Barnes, MD

Dr. Curt Barnes received his bachelor of science degree from Furman University and his medical degree from the University of Florida. He completed internship and residency training in orthopaedic surgery at Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, SC. He then completed a fellowship in shoulder surgery in Sydney, Australia and a fellowship in knee surgery in Melbourne, Australia. Upon completion of his fellowship training he returned to Johnson City in 1996 and Joined Appalachian Orthopaedic Associates. Dr. Barnes is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. He has previously served as the chief of surgery at Johnson City Medical Center. He is an orthopaedic consultant at the VA Medical Center. Dr. Barnes’ surgical practice is focused on sports medicine and joint replacement surgery with emphasis on shoulder and knee surgery. He lives in Johnson City …with his wife, Beth, and their three childen.
