At a young age, Dr. Chris Carlin became intrigued by dermatology. With the example and instruction of his dermatologist father, an award-winning high school science experiment dealing with sunscreen protection, and a strong desire to help others, he was destined to become a physician.
Dr. Carlin has performed extensive research in the field of dermatology. His work includes an award-winning paper on a method of measuring the response of psoriasis to treatment, research on the effectiveness of topical Vitamin C in reducing redness in patients with rosacea, and the use of tanning bed light combined with oral medication in the treatment of psoriasis. He was first author of one of the most highly cited publications in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2004.
As Dr. Carlin sees it, “Dermatology affords the opportunity to practice every aspect of medicine that I love – the ability to intervene as a surgeon, to think as an internist, to treat children as a pediatrician, …to delve microscopically as a pathologist, and to discover as a scientist.”
