Dr. Phelan is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. His areas of interest include sports medicine and surgery of the knee and shoulder. Other areas of expertise include trauma surgery and arthroscopy.
Dr. Phelan is a native of Albany and graduated from Shaker High School. He attended Springfield College where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He received his medical degree from Albany Medical College.
Dr. Phelan completed his internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Albany Medical Center. Following residency he completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine with Dr. Donald Fithian at the San Diego Knee and Sports Medicine Research Fellowship. He has authored several scientific papers on ACL injuries and surgery.
Dr. Phelan serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Albany Medical Center. He serves as a team physician at several local high schools and colleges including R.P.I. and Colonie Central High …School.
Dr. Phelan lives in the Capital Region with his wife and three children.
Dr. Phelan sees patients at the Albany, and Latham offices.
